Cleveland Clinic (Brain Tumor and Neuro-Oncology Center)
Cleveland Clinic Foundation became the center of care for Tommy from 2001 onward. In the twenty year period from 1981 until 2001, Tommy was followed at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City by Dr Darryll C. DeVivo. He would have two surgeries there. As Tommy's care required frequent complex treatment and testing, it became necessary to utilize a facility more readily accessible. The Cleveland Clinic fulfilled all of the expectations. The Neurosurgery specialists at the Clinic consistently rank in the top five such departments in the country as identified by US News and World Report. The Taussig Cancer center was recently identified as the leading cancer center in Ohio, and one of the top 15 such facilities in the country. Part of the Cleveland Clinic Neurological Institute, the Brain Tumor and Neuro-Oncology (BTNC) Center is a nationally recognized leader in the diagnosis and treatment of primary and metastatic spine, nerve, and brain tumors, and their effects on the nervous system. In 2006, Cleveland Clinic Brain Tumor and Neuro-Oncology Center physicians recorded 8,300 outpatient visits and performed more than 900 procedures for brain tumors, including stereotactic radio surgery (Gamma Knife) and surgery. Over 25% of our new brain tumor patients come from outside of Ohio. The Center for Translational Therapeutics is accelerating the process of bringing novel therapeutic agents from the laboratory to the brain tumor patient, while maintaining the highest standards of both efficacy and safety in providing brain tumor treatments.
